Tastefully decorated rooms, lobby and spacious rooftop terrace, very helpful and kind staff, great location, super comfortable bedding, a small surprise in the afternoon, a delicious breakfast with the best coffee we have had in Malaysia and a fantastic Michelin-rated Italian restaurant, what more does one need when staying in George Town? We highly recommend this gem of a boutique hotel with all its charms that make you want to spend more time in Penang!

From the moment you are WARMLY greeted, upon your arrival, until you are kindly farewelled, you will not find a better establishment in Georgetown. So convenient. The rooms are comfortable, and the beds are plush. Our room, 'Blossom', was quite adequate for a couple but, if you are loaded up with luggage I would suggest you book a larger room. We had breakfast as part of the package, which was lovely. Every day there is a different treat in the fridge! The staff could not be more attentive and friendly. Simply put, there is no other place to stay, in Georgetown, than here.

Campbell house is a charming period property that has been considerately and tastefully decorated. Shoes should be left at the stairs before ascending to your room, each slightly different and named to reflect this. Ours was the Peacock, a good sized, very comfy bed and beautiful colonial shutters behind the draps, our room had a step running across the room that interrupted the floor from the bed to bathroom, although this had glo in the dark tape, it would create a hazard for some guests. There is a small fridge with drinking water and a jug of cold refreshing tea and each day we received a little homemade sweet treat. Due to its age there are fewer plugs sockets than a more modern hotel, but it's workable. There is an in room safe. As there is no elevator, staff use a pulley system to take luggage to the 2nd and 3rd floors, this also means you need to negotiate the wooden stairs barefoot, again it not a problem but it might be a consideration for those less mobile. Breakfast is a la carte, it's very good quality but can be a little slow and we found that not all drink options are listed, so until we caught on we didn't think to ask for exactly what we wanted, but really I'm picking in the weeds to mention it. There is a little store across the street to pick up soft drinks or water if you need and there is a laundry along the same street just a few blocks away. The staff were great, helpful and friendly I recommend a stay at Campbell House.

This a small hotel is absolutely brimming with character. The owner is on hand to ensure a tight ship and her engaging presence ensures a personal touch. We really liked our room Opium which was located at the top of the stairs on the top floor. Campbell House is a town centre hotel in the thick of the action so expect some street noise at night. We always travel with ear plugs so not a problem for us. All the staff without exception were helpful,charming and friendly without being overbearing. The gentleman on reception (the owner referred to him as Mr Kumar?) is a major asset, proving to be an excellent source of local knowledge. Do take advantage of his restaurant recommendations. During our stay the restaurant was alway busy and arriving without a reservation may result in a wait for a table. I can only vouch for the pizza but it was excellent. We were here for 5 nights and would happily stay again.

Wonderful boutique hotel, close to the centre of George town. Amazing rooms, very well equipped and really friendly staff and first class service. Lots of antique furniture and quirky art works to admire Excellent, serve breakfast at the restaurant, El Bacado Would definitely come back.
